What Is The Best Form Of Transport To Get In and Around London?

London is a very big place and there are so many options when it comes to transport in and around the city during your time there. So, we are here to help you narrow down your options to decide on the best way to do things during your visit!

Car Parking

First up we have car parking! Whilst we wouldn’t recommend driving around London all day long due to congestion charges and heavy traffic, it is great for driving in and then exploring part of London by foot. For example, you could park at Care Park near Hyde Park, explore all of the park, see Kensington and Buckingham Palace and finish the day with a bit of shopping, with only a short walk to your car and not a long train journey to carry all of your bags on!

If you’re going into London with multiple people, it is very likely the cost of parking will be cheaper than individual train tickets for everyone and you have the convenience of being able to leave whenever you want without train times restricting you, and if you do buy things during your trip there isn’t the risk of them accidentally being left on the train or bus. Parking is a great option for London to set you up for the day well.

Train

If you don’t drive, are going into London on your own or only with another person or you are wanting to have a drink, then getting the train is a great option. You should use the train to get you into London, and then for the rest of the day you can use the other transport options below. Trains to and from London run all the time, no matter the location, so you will have lots of options throughout the day. We’d always recommend getting yourself a railcard, as there are great options for all ages, if you visit London regularly.

Tube (London Underground)

Now that you’ve arrived in London, either by car or train, we’d definitely recommend using the tube to get around the city. It is super quick, much more affordable than taxis and it is really convenient with over 272 stations across the city. It gets quite busy during peak hours, like 7-9am and 5-7pm, so avoid these hours if you don’t like busy spaces, but it is a fantastic method of transport that would be our number one for once you are already in London.

Bus

The bus systems are also fantastic in and around London, although they are slower than the tube as they have the London traffic to contend with. So, although we’d always put the tube as number one, a great option if you’re visiting London as a tourist is to go on a Hop-On-Hop-Off bus tour, where you can see all of London and simply jump off if you see something that you want to take a longer look at. Once you’re done, hop back on one of the very frequent buses!
