S N Subrahmanyan: How L&T's CSR Vision Is Powering India's Viksit Bharat Push

Larsen & Toubro's corporate social responsibility work reached more than 1.9 million people across India in FY 2025-26, underscoring the company's continued push toward inclusive, sustainable development. Under Chairman and Managing Director S N Subrahmanyan, L&T's CSR programmes span education, healthcare, skill development, water conservation, and community development — areas that closely track several of the government's national priorities under the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.

STEM Education: Project Jyoti

Project Jyoti extended its reach to 51,741 students across 341 schools during the year, focusing on strengthening Mathematics and Science outcomes. The programme is positioned as a direct contributor to India's innovation-led growth agenda, building foundational STEM skills at the school level.

Community Development: Project Nayi Disha

Project Nayi Disha touched more than 26,000 people across Jharkhand, Bihar, and Odisha through an integrated approach covering education, healthcare, women's empowerment, and livelihood support — targeting some of the regions with the greatest development need.

Skilling India's Future Workforce

Through its network of 10 Construction Skills Training Institutes, L&T delivered industry-relevant vocational training to more than 13,000 youth this year, adding to the talent pipeline for India's infrastructure and manufacturing sectors — a priority area for L&T Chairman S N Subrahmanyan as the company scales into new industrial segments.

Water Security: Project Unnati

Project Unnati supported over 30,000 households across Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu, covering more than 46,000 hectares of land. The programme contributed to an average 9.95-metre rise in groundwater levels in the areas it operates, directly strengthening water security and rural livelihoods.

Aligning CSR with National Priorities

L&T's CSR programmes are structured to produce measurable, long-term outcomes rather than one-off interventions. They align with several Government of India initiatives, including Skill India, the Jal Jeevan Mission, Jal Shakti Abhiyan, and the National Education Policy, reflecting a deliberate effort to complement — rather than duplicate — public development priorities.

S N Subrahmanyan's Broader Philosophy on Responsible Growth

The scale and structure of these programmes reflect a philosophy that L&T Chairman S N Subrahmanyan has articulated repeatedly: that responsible businesses have a role to play in nation-building, not just economic output. With CSR outcomes reaching nearly two million people in a single year, L&T's initiatives illustrate how a large industrial company can pair commercial growth with measurable social impact — a combination increasingly central to the Viksit Bharat 2047 agenda.
