The rules changed in 2026, so a lot of older advice is out of date. This guide covers what Limiteds are, how buying, reselling, and trading work now, and what to check before you value an item. Where a rule comes from Roblox's help pages or Terms of Use, I say so. Where it's my own advice, I say that too.
What is a Roblox Limited?
A Limited is an avatar item that Roblox has stopped selling in the normal way, so the only way to get one is from another player. Roblox's help pages describe two kinds:
Limited: an item that was "only available for sale from Roblox for a limited time." Once it goes off sale, the copies already owned are all that exist.
Limited U: an item sold "until its limited supply is sold." It's released in a fixed number of copies, and each copy has its own serial number, such as #45 of 100.
Side by side, the two types compare like this:
Limited | Limited U | |
|---|---|---|
How it was sold | For a limited time | Until a fixed supply sold out |
What sets the supply | How many people bought it before it went off sale | A number fixed at release |
Serial number | No | Yes, one per copy |
How you get one now | From another player | From another player |
The practical difference is how supply was set. A Limited's supply depends on how many people bought it before it went off sale. A Limited U's supply was fixed from the start.
How to tell if an item is Limited
Open the item's page in the Marketplace. A Limited or Limited U item shows a label on its thumbnail, and the details section includes:
A Tradable field showing Yes or No.
A Resellers list showing who is selling it, ordered from the lowest price to the highest.
A price chart showing the average price over 30, 90, or 180 days.
If there's no resellers list and the item can still be bought directly at a fixed price, it's a normal item.
What changed in 2026: Roblox Plus replaced Premium
For years, you needed a Roblox Premium membership to trade or resell. That's no longer the name of the subscription.
According to Roblox's help pages, Roblox Plus launched globally on April 30, 2026, and Premium memberships are no longer available to buy. Plus is now the subscription tied to trading and reselling. Its listed benefits include unlimited trading of Limited items and the ability to resell avatar items.
If a guide tells you to "get Premium to trade," it was written before this change.
How to buy a Limited
You buy a Limited from another player through the item's page, using Robux. The lowest current asking price is shown first.
Two things to know before you buy:
There's a holding period. Roblox says that after you buy a Limited or Limited U item, it enters a hold of up to 30 days. You can't resell it until that ends.
The price is set by sellers, not Roblox. The lowest listing can sit well above or below the item's recent average, so check the price chart first.
How reselling works
To resell a Limited, Roblox's help page on selling items says you need an active Roblox Plus subscription. Once the holding period on the item has ended, you can list it at a price you choose.
A few details from the same page:
Sale proceeds aren't instant. When your item sells, the Robux first appears as Pending and moves to your balance later.
Japan: users can only resell Limited and Limited U items originally made by Roblox.
South Korea: reselling is currently not available.
Roblox also takes a share of each sale, so the amount you receive is lower than the listed price.
How trading works
Trading lets two players swap Limiteds directly. Roblox's trading help page sets out the current rules:
You need Roblox Plus. The page also notes that, for a limited time, users in the United States can make two free trades each month without it.
Both players must have trading turned on. The setting is under Account Settings, in Privacy and content restrictions, then Trading and inventory.
Only certain items qualify. Roblox lists "Limited and Limited U items that were created by Roblox" as tradable. Check the Tradable field on the item's page.
You can add Robux to balance a trade, with limits. A 30% fee is taken from any Robux in a trade once the offer is accepted. The Robux you add also can't be more than 50% of the value of the items you're offering, after the fee.
Trading isn't available in South Korea.
The same page includes a trade quality filter with four settings (None, Low, Medium, and High) to screen out lopsided offers.
Two lines from Roblox are worth quoting directly: "Trades are final. Once a trade is complete, it cannot be reversed, refunded, or disputed." And: "Only trade using the official Trade feature."
What decides a Limited's value
Roblox shows you the recent average price and current listings. Everything beyond that is community judgment. In my view, these are the factors that matter most:
Supply. How many copies exist, and how many are realistically still in active accounts.
Demand. Whether people want to wear it. Some rare items are barely wanted, and some common ones are always in demand.
Recent sales, not asking prices. A listing is only what a seller hopes to get. The price chart shows what buyers actually paid.
Serial number. On Limited U items, very low serials are often treated as more desirable.
Liquidity. How quickly the item sells. A high-priced item that rarely changes hands is hard to turn back into Robux.
Third-party value lists exist, but they're opinions. I'd treat them as one input and always check Roblox's own price chart.
The key numbers at a glance
Rule | Figure |
|---|---|
Hold after buying a Limited | Up to 30 days |
Fee on Robux added to a trade | 30% |
Maximum Robux in a trade | 50% of the value of the items you offer, after the fee |
Free trades without Roblox Plus (US, limited time) | 2 per month |
Price chart periods | 30, 90, or 180 days |
Common mistakes and scams
Most losses with Limiteds come from a short list of mistakes:
Trading outside the official window. Any deal where you "send first" has no protection.
Trusting a value someone quotes you. Check the item page yourself.
Accepting a trade in a hurry. Trades are final, and Roblox says they can't be reversed.
Paying real money for items. Roblox's Terms of Use say you may not acquire or distribute Robux or virtual content except through Roblox's own services, and that doing so can lead to suspension or termination.
Forgetting the hold. A Limited you just bought can be locked from resale for up to 30 days.
What Limiteds mean if you're looking at accounts
Limiteds are one of the main things people look for on existing Roblox accounts. Before you go further, here's the part to read carefully.
Roblox's Terms of Use state: "Selling your Account or your access credentials to another User is strictly prohibited. Similarly, purchasing another User's Account or access credentials is strictly prohibited." The Terms list suspension or termination as possible consequences. No seller can promise that Roblox won't act on an account that has changed hands.
If you're comparing accounts anyway, here's what I'd check:
Which items are Limited or Limited U. Ask for the exact item names, not a total "value" figure.
Whether the items are tradable. Check the Tradable field for each one.
Whether the account has Roblox Plus. Without it, trading and reselling aren't available beyond any free-trade allowance.
Email and security access. Confirm you can change the email, password, and two-step verification.
Refund or warranty terms. Read them before paying and keep a copy.
Those checks help you understand what you'd be getting. None of them removes the risk.

A Roblox Limited is an item that's off sale and only moves between players. Limited U items have a fixed supply and serial numbers. Since April 2026, you need Roblox Plus to trade or resell, purchases carry a hold of up to 30 days, and Robux added to a trade is charged a 30% fee.
