New Year's Eve in Dubai can go two ways. You either spend it stuck in traffic near Downtown, or you spend it sitting down with a plate of food while the fireworks go off over the water. For couples, the second one wins by a mile, and that's basically what a canal cruise dinner is.

Big NYE parties are fun if you love crowds. Plenty of couples don't. On a canal cruise you get your own table, a decent meal and a bit of room to breathe. Lower deck or upper deck
Some boats sell both, so it's worth knowing the difference.
The lower deck is usually enclosed and a bit cosier. Good for a proper sit-down dinner, and you won't be fighting the breeze.
The upper deck is open and usually costs more. The views are wider and the mood is livelier, so it suits you if photos and fireworks are the main event. December nights in Dubai are comfortable, but pack a light jacket. It gets cooler on the water than you'd expect.
Things to sort out before you book
Book early. NYE is the busiest night of the year and good seats go first.
Get to the boarding point on time. The boat leaves when it leaves.
Dress smart casual. Nothing fancy, just skip the beach gear.
Charge your phone. You'll take more photos than you think.

Work out your ride home. Taxis are hard to find after midnight.
